Description

Purchased from an individual of Calistoga, California, who bought the Dodge Pursuit from the California Highway Patrol, at Napa, California auction in 1963. In 1983, it was purchased by a former CHP officer with 138,000 miles showing on the odometer, who began the restoration process which took approximately 5 years to complete. The restoration process included an engine overhaul, transmission service, front-end suspension parts replaced, body and paint, and interior reupholstered. The process also included installing every CHP piece of equipment that came on this car at the time it was put in service in 1961. The authentic CHP equipment included red and white spot lights, two-way radio head and trunk mounted radio unit, dash mounted switches and indicator lights, door markings, siren, Certified correct independent speedometer, proper whip radio antenna, Leece-Nevele high output alternator, correct tires and hubcaps, and many other authentic items. Being in the unique position of a CHP officer restoring this former CHP car, the car is as exact as you can find. After restoration and overhaul, the speedometer was "zeroed" and the vehicle has traveled less than 12,000 miles. The vehicle was on display at the "Harrah's Auto Museum" in Sparks, Nevada, for 6 months. The 1961 CHP Dodge Police Pursuit sedan was a unique vehicle made with the oversee of the California Highway Patrol. Certain specifications were adhered to including : An independent transmission filter, specific grind camshaft, specific wheel base length, back up lights, a "light package" to include trunk, dome and glove box lights, a "Dart" front end grafted to a "Polara" rear body and a 60 amp alternator which was installed by the CHP Motor Transport. The engine is a numbers matching 383 cu in V8 with a 4 barrel carburetor, dual exhaust and a 3-speed push button Torque Flite transmission. It operates well with brisk acceleration. Top speed approximately 125 MPH. Only three totally restored 1961 Dodge Police Pursuit CHP cars are known to exist. None to this exact restoration. Offered at $85,000.
